Our baby girl, Hailey, was born on July 7, 2004. She was born three months premature at 28 weeks and weighed only 2 lbs. 9 oz.
From the very beginning, doctors knew there were severe problems with her lungs. Within the ninth month of her stay in the NICU at Children's Memorial Hospital, her attacks, which were similar to severe asthma attacks, were getting worse. A CT scan revealed that she did not have any healthy lung tissue and her lungs were filled with lesions and dead tissue. A double lung transplant was not an option, as Hailey was too fragile to survive an extensive surgery of that nature.
Hailey passed away on April 30, 2005, the morning after we received the news of her critical condition. Not a day goes by that we don't think of her and the pain in our hearts will always be there. It is the love and support that we get from our family and friends that gets us through each day.
